Transmitter Spark-Gap Type 52A

This Transmitter was used by aircraft operators who 'spotted' the fall of artillery shells; the operator could tell the gunners if they were on target.

Both the Transmitter and its Morse key were totally enclosed, lest a spark should ignite petrol vapour in the cockpit.

The transmitters were developed by the Royal Naval Service and the maker was The Sterling Telephone Company.
